Matter has garnered significant attention in the realm of the Internet of Things (IoT) since its introduction in late 2019. The CSA, the entity behind Matter and Zigbee, aims to establish Matter as the new standard for connectivity in smart homes.

The CSA seeks to address this issue with Matter, a standard that could alleviate interoperability issues in home automation systems.
Leading tech companies have swiftly embraced Matter. Apple’s Corey Wang, a producer in Human Interface Design, highlighted Matter during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2022), emphasizing the importance of enhanced compatibility across different smart home device brands for a truly connected home. Google has integrated Matter-over-Thread support into its smart home hubs with Thread integration. In 2021, Amazon announced that almost all Echo devices would support Matter and subsequently released OTA updates for existing devices.
