RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Engineers at IBM and Boeing believe that quantum computing could revolutionize the fight against corrosion.
By leveraging Boeing’s corrosion engineering expertise and IBM’s quantum computing capabilities, researchers have developed innovative techniques for quantum simulations of the water reduction process involved in corrosion. Quantum computation has proven to be highly effective in modeling quantum-scale systems, allowing for more accurate computation of the energies in the water reduction reaction compared to traditional methods.
The researchers have also introduced a novel method for simplifying quantum circuits, reducing the quantum resources needed for their simulations. This circuit simplification technique has potential applications beyond corrosion research.
