On May 29, PwC, a major accounting and professional services firm, announced a significant deal with OpenAI to become a reseller and purchase over 100,000 licenses for ChatGPT Enterprise. This deal signifies a substantial new revenue stream for OpenAI’s enterprise product.
PwC’s US and UK firms are now the first reseller for ChatGPT Enterprise and the largest user of the product, according to a press release from PwC. They will integrate ChatGPT Enterprise’s generative AI capabilities with their audit, tax, and consulting services.
PwC Deal Shows Confidence in OpenAI’s Enterprise Offerings
Although the financial terms and duration of the deal have not been disclosed, this agreement builds upon PwC’s commitment to AI capabilities, with a planned investment of $1 billion over three years starting in April 2023.
PwC will utilize OpenAI’s latest large language model, GPT-4o, for various tasks such as reviewing tax returns, generating proposal responses, and creating software lifecycle assistants, dashboards, and reports.
PwC emphasizes the widespread demand across industries for the transformative power of generative AI technology, countering critics who argue that AI is still seeking practical applications.
PwC now holds more than 100,000 ChatGPT Enterprise licenses, with 75,000 allocated for US employees and 26,000 for UK employees.
PwC has identified 3,000 internal use cases for generative AI, indicating the technology’s increasing effectiveness in making knowledge accessible and scalable. This sentiment was echoed by Bret Greenstein, PwC partner and generative AI initiative leader.
The deal is a significant achievement for OpenAI, especially considering the high costs associated with running AI technology. PwC’s expanded relationship with OpenAI serves as a model for companies looking to enhance their AI infrastructure and services, as stated in the press release.
