Absci, a leading company in generative AI antibody discovery, has joined forces with the biopharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca to utilize AI in the pursuit of a new cancer treatment.
This partnership will make use of Absci’s Integrated Drug Creation platform, seamlessly integrating with AstraZeneca’s expertise in oncology with the goal of accelerating the discovery of a potentially groundbreaking cancer therapy.
As part of the agreement, Absci will use its innovative generative AI technology to design a therapeutic candidate antibody specifically tailored for a particular oncology target. The collaboration includes an initial commitment, significant R&D funding, milestone payments, and royalties on future product sales.
Sean McClain, the Founder & CEO of Absci, stated: “AstraZeneca is a leader in developing innovative treatments in oncology, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them to create a therapeutic candidate antibody that could enhance the lives of cancer patients.”
Absci’s Integrated Drug Creation platform combines generative AI and scalable wet-lab technologies to generate proprietary data by analyzing millions of protein-protein interactions. This data powers Absci’s proprietary AI models, enabling the design of antibodies that are later validated through wet-lab experiments.
This accelerated approach, completing the entire cycle in approximately six weeks, increases the likelihood of successful development outcomes for biologic drug candidates.
Puja Sapra, PhD, SVP of Biologics Engineering & Oncology Targeted Delivery at AstraZeneca, said: “This collaboration presents an exciting opportunity to utilize Absci’s de novo AI antibody creation platform to design a potential new antibody therapy in oncology.”
The announcement comes after Absci’s recent publication on the design and validation of de novo antibodies using their advanced ‘zero-shot’ generative AI model.
The collaboration between Absci and AstraZeneca is expected to further showcase how AI can transform drug discovery.
