Furthermore, collaborations such as those with Warner Bros Discovery and Deloitte have been crafted to enhance the viewing experience for spectators of the games by leveraging AI to enhance broadcasting and propel the games into the future.
Empowering a cutting-edge and ethical future for AI
Beyond enhancing performance, AI can also play a pivotal role in transforming the judging and refereeing processes in sports to reinforce fairness. This technology can also aid in enhancing safety measures, ensuring that athletes feel secure and supported on their Olympic journey.
“We are committed to harnessing the immense potential of AI in a responsible manner,” asserts the IOC President. “Our Olympic AI Agenda outlines a robust governance framework for the execution of this strategy, which aims to provide equal opportunities for all and guarantee self-determination for every individual.
“In doing so, the IOC aims to chart the path for the AI future of sports with responsible leadership by embracing change while upholding the Olympic values.”
The Olympic AI Agenda was formulated by the IOC AI Working Group, which comprises AI experts, academics, athletes, and technology firms. Established by the IOC in 2023, the group was tasked with exploring the applications of AI in sports to maximize opportunities and mitigate risks.
Looking ahead to Paris 2024 and beyond, Thomas Bach emphasizes that responsible AI governance will be crucial in adapting to change while preserving the Olympic ideals of ‘faster, higher, stronger, together’.
“We must remain vigilant, adaptable, and ready to make the necessary adjustments to stay ahead of the curve,” he remarks. “By achieving this, we can truly contribute to a more human-centered world with AI – at least in the realm of sports.”
