Alibaba Cloud has expanded its reach in the global AI landscape by introducing an international version of ModelScope, its open-source AI model community. This move is aimed at making generative AI capabilities accessible to a broader audience of businesses and developers worldwide.
ModelScope, based on Alibaba Cloud’s “Model-as-a-Service” concept, converts AI models into easily deployable services. Since its inception in mainland China in 2022, the platform has evolved into the largest AI model community in the country, with over five million developer users.
Through this global expansion, developers worldwide now have access to over 5,000 advanced AI models. The platform also encourages user-contributed models, fostering a collaborative environment for AI development.
The English version of ModelScope provides developers with a comprehensive set of tools and resources to support the realization of their AI projects. This includes access to more than 1,500 high-quality Chinese-language datasets and a wide range of toolkits for data processing. Additionally, the platform offers various modules that enable developers to customize model inference, training, and evaluation with minimal coding requirements.
Alibaba Cloud unveiled the English version of ModelScope during the 2024 Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) Conference in Seattle. This annual event brings together academics, researchers, and industry leaders for a five-day exploration of the latest advancements in AI and machine learning through workshops, panels, and keynotes.
Alibaba’s presence at CVPR was further highlighted by the acceptance of over 30 papers from Alibaba Group, with six selected as oral and highlighted papers. This achievement underscores Alibaba’s dedication to driving progress in AI research and development.
Conference attendees had the opportunity to experience the capabilities of Alibaba’s proprietary Qwen model series at the company’s booth. The demonstration showcased the model’s impressive image and video generation capabilities, offering a glimpse into the potential applications of Alibaba’s AI technologies.
